WFC Runners - Thursday 31st May - St Giles Hill Drills

WFC Runners - Thursday 31st May - St Giles Hill Drills

After a couple of weeks of sprinting on the flat this week we went back to more hill sprints.

It had been a fairly dry day but unfortunately there was a short shower just before the session started.  This made the pavements a little slippery as Jo M and Philippa D found out! I was pleased to see so many faces in Abbey Gardens with 14 Fit Clubbers joining me for, what turned out to be, a very tough session!

This week we welcomed Maria to the group!  I hope the hills don't put you off coming back!!

After a warm-up we headed along to Blue Ball Hill.  Here we did the first of our reps up to the main junction.  We had a short rest and then jogged on up to Alresford Road and into the park at St Giles hill via Baring Road.  This jog in it's self was fairly tough with the hill seemingly going on FOREVER!!  Once in the park we ran into the bottom corner and here was where each of the reps started.

Each rep was to consist of one short sprint of roughly 50m up a fairly steep slope followed by a jog back down to the start and then a longer sprint of roughly 100m with a jog back to the start.  We then had a 1 min rest, before repeating this twice more (three in total).

We then went for a jog around the park, stopping for the obligatory photo at the view point, before heading back to where we started the reps.

We then repeated a further 3 reps of 50m then 100m before heading back down the hill (very tentatively) to Abbey Gardens.  Here we cooled down and headed on our merry way!

Yet again I would like to thank the group for working so hard in not ideal conditions and for being such a relentlessly positive group.
