WFC Runners - Running in Quarantine, Not the Magaluf half

News

I hope everyone is keeping well and staying safe.  With the lockdown having been extended for a further 3 weeks and England Athletics banning all club activity until the end of May it will be a while before Fit Club sessions resume.  I am delighted to see so many people still running and staying fit despite the restrictions.  I'm also pleased to see everyone adhering to the restrictions and respecting the social distancing.

Myself, I have struggled for motivation to do my usual training, but have really enjoyed exploring the roads and trails around Winchester.  I have realised that after 10 years of living in Winchester I really haven't explored much of the surrounding area. Most of my running is done near my work in Bournemouth and I actually do very little running in Winchester.  So this prolonged period of working from home has enabled me to explore a little further.  I've also found some new locations for sessions once we are able to restart (warning, most of them include hills)!

It has also been great to stay in contact with you all via the fortnightly zoom quizzes. The last one saw 35 of us all getting together online along with our children and pets.  The quiz was won by Max and Lucie with a cracking 33/40 score.  Congratulations guys!!  Next quiz is April 30th at 7:30.

In the meantime stay safe and stay healthy!

Race Reports

Me, My Quarantine and I by Andy Mant

Far from being concerned about what I haven’t been able to do over the last few weeks, instead I have found myself reflecting upon just how lucky I have been to get out and still have a good run. But this story actually starts last September when on a very wet Autumn morning I stood in the rain with my son on my shoulders, and cheered as the first few WFC runners completed their home half marathon.

Despite what I had said to friends in the preceding months, it was at that very moment I decided I was going to run in that race next year. As I have spoken about in the past, moments like these crystallise for me what our running club stands for in terms of community and support, but also our ability to inspire each other to run further and faster.

Not being able to meet up as a club for the last four weeks must have meant I have lost something; surely... Strava tells me that in that time I have run 140k, with 32 ‘achievements’, even including a couple of cups and a crown to boot. So what does this mean? Perhaps it merely confirms something I have always suspected, when I strip back the watch, the shoes and all the other ‘essential’ kit; I run alone.

Having said that I have returned from my long run this morning, and would gladly swap all those ‘achievements’ for a Hills with Mills session, I’d gladly run up one side-across the long flat top-and down the other side of a James White pyramid, or even take part in a Hastie sprint up and around Blue Ball Hill. And please, won’t someone offer me a piece of cake!

Yes, I’ve managed to keep running for the last month, but that is all because of the inspiration acquired last September and the awesome spirit I have absorbed at Thursday sessions between now and then. Just because I run alone doesn’t mean I wish to run on my own! I am now left wondering, just how much longer that spirit I have saved up will last. Truth be told I can’t wait to ‘run alone’ with all of you again, as soon as it is responsibly possible!

Run safe everyone!

Not the Magaluf Half By Elise Gilbert

Back in December I was scrolling through the news feed on Facebook and saw a half marathon in Magaluf, Majorca in April. I have never entered a half marathon so I looked into it. I am terrified of flying and won't ever fly more than 2 hours away. I decided that if I booked the flight and went on my own this might help me overcome my fear of flying. My boyfriend was travelling to Benidorm the same week so I could travel to the airport with him to take my mind off the flight ahead & on the way home there would have been my diazepam & prosecco cocktail. It took me about a week to pluck up the courage to book but I finally did it. I would be flying out on the 17th, taking part in the half marathon on the 18th, then a few days in the sun & fly back on the 23rd.

I didn't tell many people about the trip as I didn't want the added pressure of a race time along with my fear of flying. I remember the pressure I put myself under for the great south when James set me a time n so I wasn't going to make that mistake again. I was so excited about this trip (apart from the flying part ) so I was really disappointed when it was cancelled due to coronavirus but it is what it is. I decided when it was cancelled I would go out and run the distance anyway so I was praying that we wouldn't go into full lock down as that would have been a tough run in my one bed house with a 12 ft x 12th garden!!

I decided to get up early on Sat to complete it but as always didn't sleep well as the time of under 2 hours was playing on my mind. When the alarm went off at 05.45 I remember shouting out 'Nooooooooo' but thought the sooner I get out of bed and get on with it the sooner I would be back eating Easter eggs being delivered in my shopping today.

I set off with a good pace and completed the first 5k in under 28mins so was pleased, got to 10th and completed this in under 55 so again I was pleased as I was on target. By about 13th I could feel myself slowing down. After thinking about a conversation with Anne the night before saying she missed running with me as I motivated her, this spurred me on so I dug deep and pushed on. I got down to the last 2k and kept checking my garmin which was jumping around all over the place and didn't know what was wrong with it as I was well ahead of target up to this point.

I finally finished with a time of 1hr 59mins 58seconds & although I think I was quicker than that I was really pleased it was under my target time of 2 hours. The only disappointment I had was when I returned home to get my shopping delivered to find out they had substituted my Easter egg with a vegan one!!!!

WFC Runners - Elise runs a marathon, Lucy runs a half, zoom quiz, parkrun stats

News

Firstly I hope you and your families are all healthy and safe.  These are strange and frightening times and the restrictions currently in place are there to keep people safe and save lives.  Fortunately for us they do still allow exercise, albeit just once a day, and it is great to see so many of you taking advantage of this and equally great to see you all abiding by the rules laid out by the government.  Hopefully further restrictions are not needed.

Whilst we have been on partial lockdown we have obviously seen the majority of people's target races be postponed or cancelled. For some this has meant a chance to take a bit of a break and recover from the niggling injuries they may have been carrying, for some training has continued as before, myself I have been taking this opportunity to explore new trails near to home and to look for new venues for our Thursday sessions and some have sought to set themselves personal challenges.

One such challenge was Elise running her first ever marathon, which she did the day before her Dad's funeral.  The route was a lapped course around St Catherines which Elise completed in a stunning 4:35:01.  Congratulations Elise! Read all about it below...

Sunday the 5th was supposed to see a number of Fit Clubbers running the Bournemouth half and it was due to be Lucy G's first ever half marathon, in aid of the Samaritans (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lucy-gardner28).  Not wanting to let her sponsors down Lucy headed out with pacer Stefan and ran the 13.1 mile distance in a cracking time of 1:53:34. Congratulations Lucy!

Friday the 3rd also saw Fit Clubbers gather together online for a pub quiz with Coach James.  39 of us got onto a Zoom video call for the 6 round, 30 question quiz.  It was great to see everyone and to catch up.  The quiz was a toughie, which saw Rachel, Simon and Felicity Mills tie on 28 points (out of 40) with Sharon "One R" Smith.  After a parkrun related tie breaker the Millses took the win! It was a great success and so we are doing it again on April 16th at 7:30pm.  Thank you to everyone who took part!

In the meantime stay safe and I hope you stay fit and healthy.

parkrun - pre-closure stats!

So as we can’t actually parkrun I thought I would bore you with some stats!!

We have 82 registered Fit Club parkrunners.

We have run a total of 4251 parkruns.  Glenna has run 403 of these with James having run 286, Jo H running 195 and Matt M running 190.  5 Fit Clubbers have run just once.

We have run 2900 times at Winchester.  Glenna has run 232 times at Winchester, Jo H 179 and MC 155.

The three most frequent tourists are James with 119 different venues, Matt with 63 and Glenna with 56.

Look out for more stats next week!

Race Reports

Marathon by Elise Gilbert

At the beginning of 2020 I had the following running challenges which I had set myself, everyone knows I love a challenge

  • Reach 100 parkruns by the end of 2020 (depends on coronavirus now)
  • Enter a race every month of the year (will hopefully continue with this but virtually)
  • Continue with the daily running streak of a minimum of 1 mile ( Started this on the 25/11/19) (will continue even if we go to full lockdown)
  • Fly to Majorca by myself ( I am petrified of flying ) in April and complete the Magaluf Half (cancelled)

So with some of these now possibly being unachievable due to coronavirus I needed a new challenge. Due to losing my dad on the 16th Mar I was having a particularly low couple of days on Mon 30/03 and with the funeral approaching at the end of the week I needed something to focus on so me being me decided on Weds morning that to distract myself from my dad’s funeral I would complete a marathon distance on Thursday morning. Due to coronavirus I am working at home but had booked Thurs & Fri off. I had decided that I could complete the marathon distance by doing the St Catherine’s loop (not including the hill). On Weds I had run the loop to check the distance and it was 6.5k so I would have to run just under 7 loops to complete the distance which in my head thought it was doable.

I woke up at 05.30 on the Thursday so I could have my pre run crumpets and peanut butter, I woke up feeling quite nervous as I do on race days not that this was a race but I had put a lot of pressure on myself. I got ready at it was time to leave so off I went.

I happily ran the first loop and I was counting down from 42k, I chose to countdown as I didn’t want to keep looking at my Garmin. The first half of the distance seemed to go quite quickly and when I reached 21k I decided to set myself another challenge of not stopping till I reached 42k which at the time seemed like a good idea. It wasn’t until I got down to the last 13k that I was struggling and started to feel quite emotional and just wanted it to end. I had a little word with myself and as my dad wasn’t a quitter he wouldn’t expect me to give up after coming this far so I wiped my tears and got on with it. Although I struggled with the last 13k the last 3k were the hardest I have ever run!! When I eventually finished I stopped my watch and just shouted out ‘YES’ at the top of my voice as couldn’t quite believe I had managed to not only complete the distance but did it without stopping once, at this point I wanted to just lay down on the ground but luckily I was only round the corner from my house so walked back and collapsed in a heap on my living room floor and had a little cry of relief.

Although it doesn’t sound like it I am so glad I did this and I know my dad would have been proud as when he was in good health him and my mum would often come and support me on my races and since they have been in the home I have always taken my medals for them to see ☺ I have ordered a medal for this distance which is a monopoly board and will show my mum once it arrives once I am allowed to visit.

What pleased me even more was that afternoon and Fri I saw STRAVA posts from Simon Boyden & Sarah Geddes saying that they had been inspired by my run and had both run 18k – Amazing ☺

The worst bit about running this distance was I hadn’t planned the cake situation very well, I had visited Sainsbury’s in town the day before for some essentials, cake being one of them but somehow managed to get home and had no cake in my bags only hot cross buns!!!

I was also totally overwhelmed by all the messages and the support received by all of you with regards to my dad passing and my marathon distance so THANKYOU it meant a lot and got me through what has been a tough month

WFC Runners - Restrictions, parkrun stats, Palace half

News

Firstly I hope you are all staying well and looking after yourselves and your families!  These are unsettling and scary times, so please stay safe!  As I mentioned before we are more than a running club, we are a community.  So please feel free to use the WhatsApp group to ask for help, ask for advice or just to chat.  We are all here for each other!!

As I write this the instructions and restrictions have changed again.  We are now as close to a lockdown as it can be.  We are allowed to run still, once a day, and only alone or with a member of your family.  Please respect this, it will save lives.

I know for some, including myself, this will be really tough.  Look out for the online fitness sessions that are popping up or check out online yoga and pilates. Once these restrictions lift Fit Club will be there to support you back to full fitness.

Stay safe and I hope you stay fit and healthy.

parkrun - pre-closure stats!

So as we can’t actually parkrun I thought I would bore you with some stats!! Here are our stats upto the shut down...

So far this year there have been 13 possible parkruns. 52 different Fit Clubbers have run 307 parkruns. That’s an average of 24 runs a week. Our highest week saw 32 runners at parkrun and our lowest was just 13.

Only 2 Fit Clubbers have run all 13 weeks - Glenna and Jenny.

Fit Clubbers have run at a whopping 50 different locations. We have run 129 times at Winchester, 32 at Southampton and 19 at Whiteley. We’ve also run in 3 different countries - UK, Ireland and Australia.

Rachel and Simon Mills have run at the most different locations in 2020 having visited 10 different locations.

Our average run time is 28:23 and our fastest is 20:04 run by Max at Teignmouth Promenade on the 29th Feb.

Jenny and Alice have both finished 2nd lady twice and Allen is the highest finishing male with a 3rd place.

Look out for more stats next week!

Race Reports

Palace Half by Sally Boyden

In this time of uncertainty it was absolutely fantastic to still be racing my first ever half marathon at the Hampton Court Half today. It was an early 5am start as I knew it would take a while to tape up my foot and be ready for Simon H to pick me up at 6am.

Simon drove myself and his son Max to Richmond, where we got a bus straight to Hampton Court. We had a coffee stop on the way and I had made a peanut butter roll to have with some ibuprofen!

We saw the start line as we walked in to the Palace. What a stunning location. A quick nip to the toilet for everyone and we made our way to the race village. We very soon realised that it was absolutely freezing. We were all very reluctant to strip any layers off. A banana and drink, sort the trainers and race number out and we were ready!

Max went off as he was in the 2nd wave and Simon and I had a bit of time before our wave (number 5). Shivering, we took off our layers and put our bags in the bag drop. A quick photo trying to shelter by a bush...

We ambled down to the start line and we had literally got there and they said to start running!! We had not got anything sorted!! No stretching, no last minute chat, no sorting out of headphones and no photo at the start line!!!

This photo is hilarious... I just about got my watch started and I’m trying to switch on my headphones!! My phone was in my back pocket so I didn’t want to faff about at the start, I wanted to take it all in. Anyway this was the course:

We started off down a relatively narrow sandy pathway next to the River Thames which was lovely apart from we were constantly weaving in and out of people and dodging puddles and potholes and this theme generally continued.

At mile 2.5 there was a sign for toilets. Simon decided that he was going to stop!!! I had no idea what to do...wait for Simon or just carry on!?!? I decided to just carry on and I heard Simon say, ‘See you at the finish’. My Simon comfort blanket was gone and I was on my own!!! At mile 3 I had my first gel. On our practice runs we have always stopped running to take on a gel, but I decided to go for it and see if I could run and have it... surprisingly it was ok!!

The majority of the next part of the run was actually on pavements by the road...they hadn’t closed the roads, so again it was quite difficult to navigate around people. Around mile 9.5 I was starting to feel my blister and by this time we were back on the original path around the outside of the palace. It had thinned out a bit but I was feeling alone...there wasn’t much to take my mind off stuff, so I decided to get my phone out and try and get my headphones going! Not ideal whilst running! I accidentally hit the wrong podcast, so had to go through the process again, then the second time I put it on to the right podcast, but on an episode I had already listened to! I gave up...it did take my mind off things though, just having something playing in the background.

This was at about mile 10.

The original toilet that Simon went in at the start was coming up again at mile 11 and I really needed a wee. I was lucky, as I was running up someone came out of one. I nipped in and thought that the whole portaloo was going to capsize as it was sooooo rickety!!! A very quick wee and I was off again. Only 2ish miles to go. I turned a corner and unexpectedly it was all off-road. We had a trail to finish which, again, was very difficult to navigate around people, puddles and an uneven surface. Those last 2 miles seemed very long.

The end in sight, there were now spectators for the very last bit which was lovely and then the finish arch was in the distance. A beam on my face I crossed the finish line.

So excited that I was to finish I completely forgot to stop my watch and then even more excited to see Henry VIII!!

I picked up my goody bag and went to change into dry clothes and wait for Simon.

So a reflection on this race as a novice...very narrow paths, roads not closed, and trail made it a slower (I think) half marathon. But what a place to start and finish and a picture with Henry made it memorable. Great medal bling and a good t-shirt.

We then all head back to Richmond where we stopped in Five Guys...

Stretching had to be done!!

Not too shabby on a blistered foot (I think you’ve all had enough of the photos!!) and no one to push me on!!

Anyway...please keep safe everyone. I can’t wait to see you all on the other side. Thank you everyone that has helped me get where I am now. I keep having to tell myself that I’ve actually ran a half marathon! I just wouldn’t have believed this a year ago!!! This is a HUGE achievement for me!!!

If Simon and I can do anything to help anyone in difficulty over the next few months then shout! Xxx

WFC Runners - Covid-19, Palace Half, Alice's 100th, parkrun

Covid-19 Coronavirus update

Over the past week the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has escalated and the advice has been changing regularly.  On Monday that advice included measures aimed at "social distancing".  After careful consideration by the Fit Club committee it was agreed that we should suspend all Fit Club sessions with immediate effect and until further notice.

This also means the suspension of the challenge with immediate effect (as communicated via WhatsApp earlier in the week) and the postponement of the Couch to 5km course scheduled for April.

Whilst this is obviously disappointing it is the only sensible and prudent course of action that we can take at this time and I hope you understand that it was not an easy one to make.

In anticipation of this announcements races had been cancelling almost daily.  Big casualties early on were the London, Brighton and Manchester marathons and in more recent days the Eastleigh 10km, Salisbury 10 and the Bournemouth Bay Half.

Whilst this is a massive disappointment for some it is worth remembering that there will be other opportunities to complete these races. The health and safety of you, your loved ones and the vulnerable in society is paramount.

You are still able to go outside and are still able to run.  I encourage you all to do so and to keep as fit as possible.  If you do decide to organise your own group runs, please do so safely and try and follow any government guidelines that are in force.

We will do everything we can to keep our community going and to keep you engaged with running, even if we can't practice it together!  Please continue to use our social media streams and WhatsApp group to stay in touch and to share your running adventures (whilst we are still allowed outside)!

The blog will still go out weekly and will contain articles, some of the theory behind what we do and some other bits and bobs.  I'll also be asking you for contributions.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.  As soon as we have any more news we will share it with you ASAP.

News

Despite all the virus chat there was a race this weekend!  Simon and Sally ran the Palace Half Marathon, which starts and finishes at Hampton Court Palace.  This was Sally's first ever official half marathon race and she ran a superbly well, despite the disappointment of London being cancelled and despite a monstrous blister on her foot (she'll send you pics if you want.  And even if you don't).  Their times were fantastic:

Sally - 2:12:28
Simon - 2:22:17

Well done to the SAS team!

WFC Runners - New coaches, Surrey Half, Larmer Marathon, parkrun tourism reviews

News

Firstly this week I would like to welcome Simon and Jenny to the running club coaching team! Simon and Jenny both took their Leadership in Running Fitness course (LiRF), qualifying them to lead our Fit Club sessions. These qualifications are funded by your subs and shows that we are keen to invest in insuring that the club has a strong future and can offer the best quality sessions and coaching for our athletes. Huge thank you to Simon and Jenny for giving up their time and for committing to helping the club grow.

This week we also had a couple of members racing. Sarah Geddes was at the Surrey half in Woking. This is described as

“...chip-timed 13.1 mile run following a professionally marked and measured single loop along fully-closed roads from central Woking into the surrounding countryside.”

Despite going off a little quickly, Sarah ran a superb 2:05:36 which was a PB by a minute.

Also this weekend we had Milli running the Larmer Tree Marathon. This is a White Star event set on the Rushmoor Estate in North Dorset. It is a predominately trail run and as such was really muddy underfoot. Not only that but there was a whopping 3000ft of elevation. Despite this Milli ran a superb 6:56:21 for the nearly 27 mile course!

Congratulations to both of you!

parkrun 29th February

This week we had 28 registered Fit Clubbers at 7 different parkrun venues.

We had 9 at Winchester, James at Chasewater, Shelley and Ben at Mountbatten School, Rachel, Simon, Alex, Greame, Kathy, Catherine, Allen, Mike and Anna at Itchen Valley, Alice at Whiteley, Glenna and Dave at Merthyr and Elise, Jenny, Sheelagh, and Katie at Southampton.

We also had Sarah L at Big Bay parkrun in Cape Town, South Africa. She was joined by parkrun founder and all round lovely chap, Paul Sinton-Hewitt!

There were course PB’s at Southampton for Elise (25:45), Katie (23:34) and Sheelagh (28:27) and a course PB at Itchen Valley for Anna H (24:29). Congratulations everyone!!

Thank you to everyone who ran and volunteered.

Race Reports

Itchen Valley parkrun by Anna Hastie

It was around midnight when we decided to go to the inaugural parkrun at Itchen Valley after a suggestion from our friend Dave who we often go parkrun touring with. With all the local parkrun’s cancelled (Winchester, Southampton, Eastleigh, Mountbatten), and with it being the first event, we expected it to be a busy one. It was, but it wasn’t crazy with about 270 runners.

It was easy arriving, parking and finding the start, and there was a buzz in the atmosphere with the excitement of a new course!

3, 2, 1 and the course starts by charging across a field! Straight away we were running through what can best be described as a swamp! My feet vanished below mud and water! With mud flying everywhere I couldn’t help but smile as so many feet splashed through! We were then on a very short section of path before doing a lap of the field and past the start.

We then headed onto trail paths, winding through the trees. You can’t help but be happy running through these wiggly paths with no idea where you are going! Even on a dreary day it was pretty! It was during this that I though ahhh this is a bit easier than running on the field.... until...

Oh! We popped out back into another field, sludging through deep mud, trying not to slide backwards as the uphill’s appeared! It was somewhere around this point I looked at my watch, feeling exhausted realising I was only half way through!

We then went into a third field which we ran around the top, and then zigzagged our way down emerging back onto trail paths. From here it was winding once again through the trees until we emerged at the finish by the cafe. The finish took me by surprise, seeming to appear out of nowhere!

I looked down at my legs and feet and thought wow that’s a lot of mud! And also, I should have brought a change of clothes or a towel to protect Dave’s car!!

I absolutely loved it! I was smiling from start to finish and could just feel the happiness in the atmosphere with everyone feeling the same! There is no way you can avoid the mud on this course you have to embrace it and everyone really did!

The organisation was fantastic, the number of volunteers giving up the opportunity to run the first event was incredible. So big shout out to them. The marshals all so smiley and definitely needed on this winding course! There was a lovely cafe at the end and they even put out a hose and wooden pallet so that we could hose the mud off our legs and shoes. There is also a dog shower if needed!

One more big positive, it’s a one lap course! You don’t see many of them! I’m not sure even in the summer when the sun is shining and the ground is firm that it will be a quick course, but it will remain a very fun and beautiful course. It’s great that this course is so nearby as I imagine we will be paying a few more visits to here!

In fact, when discussing possible touring options for this weekend, Catherine suggested heading to Itchen Valley, and I was more than happy to go again for the second event! There was about half the number of people there but pretty much the same amount of mud! Trail shoes are a must....as Graeme will attest to! (muddy bum alert!!).

In comparison, Winchester will never feel muddy again!!

Chasewater parkrun by James White

This weekend we were visiting our friends in Stoke and so I had an opportunity to visit another new parkrun location.  Having already done the majority of the venues in the area my nearest I hadn't been to was at a place called Chasewater, near Walsall.

We had a kid's birthday party at 10:30am and it was 45 minutes away so I had to make sure I got round quickly and made a quick getaway!  Fortunately I had done my homework!

Chasewater parkrun is one lapper around the Chasewater reservoir.  The start/finish is right next to the carpark as are the cafe and loos.  all very convenient for a quick getaway!  We arrived in plenty of time but I spent far too long faffing around getting the kids ready to run and then taking Elsie for a wee and we ended up missing the first timers briefing.  I asked a regular about the course and they just said "keep the lake on your right and follow the person in front". Sound advice.

After the usual pre-run announcements we were off.  The first part of the route was all on closed roads and led us round past the Chasewater heritage steam railway station.  It was a nice wide road which meant I was able to overtake and run freely right from the start.  A rare luxury with the double buggy!

We then headed into the nature reserve around the top portion of the lake.  Although this was still fairly flat there was a fair few puddles to contend with and a couple of narrow bridges to cross, so progress was slowed somewhat.  This was more than made up for by the lovely surroundings!

As we rounded the top of the lake we came back on to the roads so my pace was able to increase again.  About a km from the finish we turned and came up on to the reservoir wall with the lake to our right and a drop away to the left.  It was only a single width path so overtaking was difficult.  We dropped back down to the main path and turned back towards the start.  A short sprint finish and we were done!  I got scanned quickly and we headed on our way (making the party with 15 minutes to spare!

The course was beautiful and really good fun.  It's always great to have a one lap course and this one was particularly quick.  I'd love to go back and try it again without the buggy.

Challenge - Week 9

We are now in the final block of the challenge and you have all predicted the number of runs each week, the length of the longest run and a target race or distance time.

The scoring for the number of runs is the same as block 1 and 2 (points = %age of runs completed up to a max of 100).  The points for the long run element of the challenge are based on the %age of distance covered.  The points are therefore as follows per week:

25 points for 100% (or more)
20 points for 80-99.99%
15 points for 60-79.99
10 points for 50-59.99
0 points for less than 50%

Therefore if you predict 10 miles and run 10 miles you get 25 points.  If you run 8.5 miles you would get 20 points and if you ran less than 5 miles you would get nothing!

Lastly, your predicted time earns you points based on how close you are %age wise to the time you declared.  i.e. if you predicted 25mins for 5km and you ran 26mins you would be 4% out.  You would therefore earn 96 points (100-4).  You lose points for being slower OR FASTER than your predicted time.  Therefore if you ran 24mins you would also earn 96 points.  The reason for this is that the challenge should enable you to dial in to your fastest pace and give you a better understanding of what you are capable of.

Best of luck everyone!!

This week we had a couple more runners drop out, but we still have 40 runners vying for the challenge win. Of those 40 a huge 33 still have maximum points and 14 have played their wildcards.

The first of the race predictions has already come in, with Sarah G only 36 seconds out from her half marathon prediction.  This gave her a huge 99.52 points out of a possible 100.  Well done Sarah!!
