WFC Runners - Training Session Thursday 19th

Training Session Thursday 19th

This week was a real taste of summer with warm temperatures and that strange yellow ball in the sky.  There was an excellent turn out with a whopping 14 people meeting me in Abbey Gardens for another full on running session.

We were joined by 6 new members Alex, Kate, Becca, Fran, Simon and Nicky.  Welcome to the Winchester Fit Club Runners!

For the week's fun and games we headed up to St Giles Hill.

The first challenge was the dreaded steps!  We had a staggered start to avoid congestion and decided to do it in two sections.  The team smashed their way up and found themselves in the St Giles hill park overlooking our wonderful city.

The main session was to take place on the grass and consisted of the following:
  • 5 hill sprints from the bottom of the park to the top with a jog recovery back down.
  • Jog around the park
  • 10 sprints along the tree-line across the top of the park with 15 second recoveries
  • Jog around the park
  • 5 hill sprints from the bottom of the park to the top with a jog recovery back down.
The aim was to work as hard as possible on the sprints and use the jogs to really relax, recover and get their breath back.

The team were amazing and worked really hard in hot and humid conditions.

Following the obligatory selfies on the view point overlooking the city we headed back to Abbey Gardens for a warm down.  We were even greeted by the wonderful Elise and Philippa D who came to say hi.

Thank you to everyone who came tonight and gave so much to the session.  Flat next week...promise!

Finally best of luck to Sharon and Simon at the London Marathon and Charlotte at the Southampton Marathon this Sunday.  I'm sure you will all be amazing!
